CAPA2_FITA23.jpg

2014 -> 2020

Six editions completed. The seventh on the way. More than 80 companies invited. More than 300 foreign and portuguese artists. About 200 plays, performances, music, dance. Theater for adults, for young people, for children. Laughter, tears, suspense, drama, everyday tragedies. Creators, programmers, directors, playwrights, actors, actresses, producers, photographers, mayors, volunteers and the public… a lot of public! New theatre halls, older ones, some yet to be renovated. With diverse, intense smells of culture and theater, plenty and good theatre. It is ours, yours, of all those who want it.

FITA is a quiet festival, but huge, in its heart. From Alentejo, in Alentejo, but for everyone, in a window open to the sides of the Ibero-American space.

It is the biggest theatrical event in the South of Portugal, a region that occupies one third of the national territory. It is a festival with an Ibero-American profile, with a Theater, Dance program and also some Music concerts.

We do not intend that FITA is just a theatrical event, with purely recreational and commercial objectives. We do want it to be a space for dialogue, questioning and a boost for artistic collaborations among its participants. The curatorship, although eclectic in its genesis, is guided by the quality of the proposals and the selection of performances with a great tendency for social and political questioning.

In 2020 FITA will go through 14 extensions that are already confirmed: Beja, Aljustrel, Almodôvar, Alvito, Campo Maior, Cuba, Elvas, Ferreira do Alentejo, Grândola, Lisboa (Casa da América Latina), Mértola, Ourique, Ponte de Sor and Santiago do Cacém. The intention is to take the theater to the whole region, stimulating, provoking and educating for the arts, in an area lacking in culture and cultural activities. The presence of 19 artistic companies from 11 countries has already been confirmed, namely Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Mozambique, Uruguay, Chile and Portugal.
